“There was once only the sound of bees and wind in the wiry grass, the low murmuring of moles in the cool, dark earth … then one day the others came, and the sound of bees was lost.”

Varmints is a moving children’s book written by Helen Ward and illustrated by Studio aka Director Marc Craste. The poetic narrative about one small creature’s struggle to save nature, in an increasingly polluted and noisy world, is scrawled across Craste’s often dark and dramatic illustrations. Studio aka have made the story into a short-film and after watching the spine-tingling trailer, I can’t wait to see it.
